Pastor Omara David
From Northern Uganda.
I am a comedian. Started as a youth leader in 1973 under church of Uganda, in 1974, l was we got a group of church leaders in deliverance church like Denis Ongoma and some others. While in nakiso sub county Apac district. We went there, preached the gospel, people got saved, encouraged leaders and church members. That was when we first joined deliverance church. Deliverance church was very active in schools like Nabumali, Teso College, some were students, others teachers and that is how I came to know these people because I would invite them. There were no crusades, even spiritual churches were not known. In those days only …….church were known.
Right from 1974, we worked with them, they came to our area and preached and brought so many people to the lord. From 1974 to 1980, there was little communication, but I eventually started communicating with them through Dr. Ayuku and Robert Kilam. Dr. Ayuku comes from our area and he told us what was going on. We communicated and then in 1980, I came to deliverance church office, the office then was not in Nsambya, it was within Kampala town. Nicholas Wafula was leading deliverance church then, I narrated to him all the stories of how deliverance church was rooted in our area and that it needed establishment. We came for the leaders meeting and they ordained me and appointed me as leader in my area, I was given authority to wed people and baptize.
We started as a small church in Nabyeso sub county and our number grew, so we started planting churches in other areas like Awedek, Oyitoyat, Atomat, Ayat, we even extended to other sub counties in Apac district and then moved to lira district also. In lira we started in a place called Bara, and the alloy. We even reached Gulu and established churches there. But in Gulu, there was a sister in Gulu called sister Felly who helped us establish churches.
We also reached Amoro district, Pader district. We used two methods to establish churches; we used door to door and then open air crusades. Door to door would be more effective that open air because it would create a real relationship with the church and God.
