DELIVERANCE CHURCH UGANDA CENTRE – NSAMBYA
BACKGROUND
In 1990, while he was pastoring Deliverance Church Kampala, as was called at that time, Pastor Titus Oundo received a word from the Lord telling him to build a granary for God’s end time harvest.
By faith Pastor Titus looked for land and the church bought it in several installments.
From 1993 building works have been going on through mobilization of funds from mainly the Deliverance Church congregations in Kampala.
CURRENT USAGE
The portion of the building that is usable is currently serving as office space for Deliverance Church Uganda Ministry Team secretariat, and those for the local church- Deliverance Church Nsambya.
Nsambya church runs a child development project in partnership with Compassion International, so part of the building provides space for the project’s offices. Besides, they also use it for two services every Sunday and other church functions.
On Saturdays and during school holidays the project uses different rooms as classrooms for the various age groups of the children they interact with. They handle five keys in the lives of these needy children- spiritual, socio-emotional, cognitive, life skills and health.
Parents and care-givers are empowered with various skills and those who are unwell given medical care and nutritional support.
Every quarter the five Kampala congregations come together at this centre in joint services for fellowship and envisioning.
National convocations which bring people from all over the country and sometimes from DR Congo, Rwanda and Burundi convene in this place every two years.
National women conferences have also been held here several times.
The facility has greatly helped reduce costs of hiring premises for such gatherings which cannot be held in small structures. It has also helped to overcome the harassment from traditional religious bodies who don’t want to host ‘new’ churches.
Currently New Advanced Bible School uses the premises for one week a month for training pastors and church leaders from different denominations around Kampala.
FUTURE USE
Besides current uses, when completed the facility is planned to have a training wing for leadership development- one of the biggest needs in the church in Africa. Young and emerging leaders in addition to the ministers in the field who need to be re-envisioned will from time to time be brought to the centre for short courses in leadership and theological training to equip them for the work of ministry. This felt need justifies prompt completion of the premises.
